The 2012 Infiniti FX was introduced in 2009 and since then has enjoyed solid sales growth. The 2012 FX introduces some exciting cosmetic changes and new additions to the trim levels. The most noticeable change is the front grille, which has been revised from a subtle opening to an aggressive form reminiscent of the 2009 Infiniti Etherea concept vehicle. The grille design features chrome slats as opposed to matte black mesh. The interior is highlighted by a new color scheme on the gauge cluster. It sports a new white over blue display, which is very easy to read. This takes the place of the orange and red display from previous years.

The Infiniti FX comfortably seats five in its sleek, leather-clad interior. The FX's interior trim sports black lacquer with maple accents, stainless steel kick-plates, aluminum pedals, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The interior also features a standard 10-way power seat for the driver, 8-way power seat for the passenger, reclining rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone climate control, power lift gate, MP3/USB input, CD player, XM® Satellite Radio, Bose® 11-speaker Premium Audio system, heated/ventilated front seats. The front and rear seats are appointed in leather with quilted central inserts.

The FX comes standard with 18-inch wheels, automatic on/off High Intensity Discharge xenon headlights, integrated front fog lights, power moon roof, power rear liftgate, integrated rear spoiler, dual exhaust with polished finishers, side air vents, and UV-reducing solar glass. 3.5-liter, V-6 engine, which puts out an impressive 303-hp, while the FX50 adds some muscle with a 5.0-liter, 390-hp V-8. Each of these engines is complemented by a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The 2012 Infiniti FX35 offers a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine that pushes 303-hp and has 262-lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimates that the fuel economy on the FX35 is 16-mpg in town and 23-mpg on the highway. The FX50 sports a hefty 5.0-liter, V-8 engine with an output of 390-hp and 369-lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, even with a larger engine, the FX50 boasts an EPA-estimated 16-mpg in town and 21-mpg on the highway. The transmission is electronically controlled and features Adaptive Shift Control, manual shift mode, and Downshift Rev Matching. When these components are paired with the vehicle-speed sensitive power steering, and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configuration, the FX becomes a responsive, highway hugging driving machine.

Infiniti has always been a standard bearer for safety, and the FX definitely shines in this area. The 2012 features the Infiniti Advanced Air Bag

System, which includes dual-stage front air bags, side-impact, and curtain side-impact air bags. The FX also includes Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Brake Assist. With zone body construction and reinforced crumple zones, the FX is also incredibly safe in crash situations.

The prices on the new FX are well within the boundaries of comparable SUVs, and at a base price of $44,400 the FX is a relative steal in the luxury SUV market. The Infiniti FX is a premium crossover SUV that provides excellent performance, great price, and beautiful appointments on the inside. It's definitely worth looking at if you're planning on purchasing a luxury crossover.
